“You’re pretty… for a black girl”

Did you expect me to say thank you? Is THIS what you call a ‘compliment’? No…this is an INSULT.

Little black girls didn’t have anything to help them recognize their beauty. They truly believed that “beauty is often associated with being white, economically privileged, and virtuous.” and this was portrayed this way in books and the media.

However, lets fast forward to the present, blackfishing is now happening 24/7. Why is it okay to use our culture as an ‘aesthetic’?

So lets take Kim Kardashian, she darkens her skin, pumps her lips, wears braids and acts black. Yet its totally over looked? To be honest many are still failing to understand the difference between cultural appropriation vs appreciation. It really went from blackface to blackfish…
